Oh, James!

Do your kids ever say something that makes you bust a gut, and then you forget to write it down? I worry that I have already forgotten several funny things my kids have done or said over the years, so I am going to record one here that happened just the other day. It may not be funny to anyone but us, but feel free to continue reading at your own risk.

This past Monday night, we were having family home rebellion. I mean, evening. Anyway, we asked the kids, starting with the oldest, what they want to be when they grow up. Then we proceeded to talk with them about what they need to be doing now to prepare them for their future, lofty goals. Thomas, of course, wants to be a fighter pilot, so we talked to him about reading books on the subject, and the importance of doing well in school and forming good study/work habits now. Marianne said she wanted to be a really, really, good violinist which brought up a discussion on practicing more often and for longer periods of time. William then piped up with his desire to be a Lego designer . . . hmmm, I guess you can probably see why he came up with this answer when you consider the previous discussions we'd had with Thomas and Marianne. He's a thinker! Sarah said she wants to be lots of things, among which are a pianist and illustrator. Anyway, you get the picture.

Then there was James.
(Taken at my grandparents 65th wedding anniversary party in March.)

When it was his turn, he stood up with a big grin on his face and yelled,
"I want to be a gum ball eater!"

I guess we can chalk this FHE up as one in which this kid was actually paying attention! Good one, James!

  1. Kids say the darnest things! Way-to-go James. I remember may times after family home evening thinking, "Did they get anything out of this."
