May was full of all that great end-of-the-school-year stuff which makes it one of the busiest months of the year. I felt like I was constantly running from one thing to another. And, of course, you have to add music camp and New York trip planning on top of all that. Oh, and a quartet performance coming right up. So much for trying to soak in the last little bit of "mom time" before summer when not just one, but all five kids are competing for my attention 24/7. I promise, I really do enjoy having my kids home during the summer. Most of the time.
But, it is exactly because of all this madness that I am not sure why or how I made a most irrational decision to acquire one more living, breathing thing that requires food, shelter, and care. Whenever the subject of pets has come up I've always said something like, "I've already got five running around the house, I certainly don't need one more."
I've been reading a book that says the brain is only able to focus on seven different thoughts at any given time. Once you try to add more, decision-making becomes, well, less rational. I am convinced that I already had seven different thoughts racing through my mind the day I was driving through the Wal-Mart parking lot and spied this fluffy bundle of joy in the back of someone's truck with the sign, "Bunnies for sale".
James and Will chasing Peter all over the backyard.
Sarah loves her little bunny, and so do the other kids. And I'll be honest, I always wanted a bunny when I was Sarah's age, but my parents never gave in to my pleadings. I got kitties instead. Maybe I'm just secretly fulfilling my childhood dreams through her. I don't know, but I actually enjoy having Peter around.
So far...
In other news:
William played a squirrel in his class play, "Little Red Riding Hood."
Marianne did her "History Fair" project on Bach. And let me just say, she basically did this all herself. I bought the cardboard and that was pretty much it.
Marianne in the Middle School Orchestra Concert. The 5th grade orchestra is so huge, the back row had to stand. Good thing my camera has a pretty good zoom.
Thomas in the 6th grade orchestra.
We also held a student recital, but I didn't take any pictures of the kids. Only video. James played "Go Tell Aunt Rhody" (Or, "Go Smell Aunt Grody" as he likes to put it.) on his violin. Sarah played "Maleguena" in Alfred Bk. 2 on piano. William played "Minuet 3" by Bach on his viola, and he also played a little piece he composed on the piano. (He hasn't given it a name.) And, Marianne and I played the Bach Double Concerto for two violins. (1st movement) They all sounded great!
Wow. It took me all day to put this post together. I never had a chance to just sit until it was done. Wonder why...oh ya,SUMMER BREAK!
Actually, I just realized that James performed "May Song" for the recital, not "Go Smell Aunt Grody". Oops.

Oh, this post makes me want to go get a bunny. Although, I don't even have kids...yet and I feel like I have enough living things to take care of with Jon and our two dogs. :)
