However, our family returned to Harriman State Park for a little bike trip a week and a half after Mountains & Strings. (Except Thomas, who was at the Stake Encampment.) We needed to meet with the park manager, so we turned it into a family afternoon outing and brought our bikes. (We had our bikes at M&S, but we never had time that week to actually go on a bike ride as a family for fun.)

This was James' first time ever riding on a real bike. (I know, it's about time!) He only ever dared ride a tricycle before because none of our bikes had training wheels. Richard gathered up a couple random training wheels to throw on this bike, but one kept bending and finally broke off when James was trying it out in the parking lot. Oops. Luckily, James did quite well with just one training wheel.
Harriman was just not the same. It all seemed so quiet and still.
James did get a little worn out along the way. What a trooper! He and I just took it slow and stayed behind while the rest raced to the bridge.
As he was slowly riding along, he kept humming the violin piece he is learning (Perpetual Motion) over and over with a perfect, steady beat. I was cracking up over it! So cute. I got video of it, but I'm guessing I'll be too lazy to post it.
After Richard and the others made it to the bridge, Richard raced back to meet me to take James back with him. I met the others at the bridge and took a few pictures.
Too tired to show those dimples, I guess.
I could live here.
Pelicans.
Lots of pretty wild flowers.
And, we saw these beautiful swans on our way out of the park.
Goodbye 'til next year, beautiful Harriman!
