Some random last-minute summer fun.
Sarah got braces. If it was just cosmetic, we'd just let her have ugly teeth. That's just the kind of awesome parents we are. However, I was a little worried when we realized her bottom teeth were pushing into the roof of her mouth every time she bit down. She has such a bad overbite, and nothing was stopping those bottom teeth from digging holes in the roof of her mouth.
Yeah, it kind of made me cringe too.
It bothered her quite a bit at first, but eventually, the teeth gradually caused the gums at the top of her mouth to recede back, exposing more of her teeth underneath. When I took her to the orthodontist, it sounded like she had every tooth problem in the book. Unfortunately, she had to get four teeth pulled and wait a few months before we could get the braces and solve the problem. Maybe she will have beautiful teeth someday after-all.
There's something about Dad reading a storybook out loud that really gets the kids' attention. Even our 12 and 13-year-old. Thomas is trying to act uninterested, but deep down, I think he is enjoying it most of all. ;)
Maybe we should start off early morning family scripture study with the Berenstain Bears. Do you think this would get them to wake up a little?
Another activity that never seems to get old: Fort-building - If they hold really still in a mummy position, they can even all fit!
Peter. He's so cool.
Richard's 36th birthday. 36 seems so much younger now than it did when I was a kid.
I whipped up one of his favorites, peach cobbler.
I sent Sarah to fold the clothes, one of her daily jobs, and this is what I found a while later. To quote Richard quoting his grandpa, "Sarah's not afraid of work. She can lie down right beside it and go to sleep!"
I am secretary in our ward primary, and I am lucky enough to serve with my sister-in-law, Julie, who is president. We had a little activity for the primary, and I was in charge of taking pictures.
Richard is a Sunbeam teacher, so I made him come along and help. Can't you just see what a helpful leader he is?
Marianne helped with face painting.
And, I think that pretty well wraps up August and September!
