Brothers, and a Sisters' Weekend

As most everyone already knows, I have five brothers. Three older, two younger. No sisters. All while growing up people said stuff like, "Oh, wow! You are the only girl? You must be spoiled!" I swear, if I had a nickle for every time I heard that...

But, I never quite understood it. Spoiled? What was that supposed to mean? I had to live with five rowdy, sports-loving, teasing, stinky, messy BOYS! And sometimes, they were just downright mean.

Just how did this equal spoiled?

I always wanted a sister. I prayed for a sister. When my mom was expecting my youngest brother I remember praying that he would be a girl. When she brought him home from the hospital she asked if I wanted to hold him.
I declined.

But, don't worry, it didn't take long for me to adore this strawberry-blonde, blue-eyed baby. Even when I had to share a room with him and he would throw all his stuffed animals at me from his crib...every night.

I guess I adore all my brothers now, come to think of it. They are funny and kind, and I have forgiven and forgotten all the mean things they ever did to me. Even that one time when Jared pushed me off a stool and broke my collar bone. ;)
(This picture was taken when Lance and Becky were married in 2003. I was expecting Sarah.)

And, although I didn't realize it at the time, the Lord really did answer my prayer. It just took a little longer than I anticipated. He has since given me not one, but 17 sisters. SEVENTEEN! I'd be interested to know if anyone reading this blog can beat that. I guess that was the blessing for enduring my five brothers for so long. haha! ;) They are all amazing women. I look up to each one of them, and they have become some of my very best friends.

Anyway, what did I want to talk about? Oh yeah, I got to spend a weekend with a few of these lovely ladies and my mom (who is also lovely). We went to SLC to attend the General Relief Society Meeting and do some shopping. Confession: I don't really love to shop. I mostly go for the food. (Let's face it, I'll go shopping any day if it means I get an excuse to go somewhere and eat yummy food that I didn't prepare.) But, shopping with my mom and sisters is always great fun. We stopped at Gardner Village first and then the City Creek Mall.

The meeting was wonderful, and we had great seats near the front of the conference center right in the middle. Perfect! Afterwards, we met my youngest brother, Kevin, for dinner. You know, the one that I prayed would be a girl? Even though he has grown his hair out kind of like a girl, believe me, he would not make a very pretty girl, and I'll be honest, I'm glad now that he's not. He is handsome though, wouldn't you say? And funny. And truly a great guy. It was so good to see and visit with him.
(Apparently, Kevin got his hair cut really short a couple days after this was taken. Glad I caught it on camera in time!)

Breakfast at Little America. You just can't beat a Little America breakfast. From left to right: Jeana, Mom, me, Becky, Nicole, and Alyse
So, thank you ladies for the marvelous weekend. I look forward to next time!
