Marianne's Birthday

Marianne turned 10 years old on April 9th.

History alert!!!
Ten years ago on this day (Actually, it was morning - about 2:30 in the morning!) our sweet 8 lb. 8 oz. baby girl was born. I was supposed to play in church that day for my brother's mission farwell. Luckily, we had a back-up plan just in case. Richard's friend, Trent filled in for me. We had Burt family pictures the day before. Great timing, right? I was a couple days over-due, and I really wanted to try having her completely natural. That is just what I did. (Mostly, because by the time it was so painful that I was begging for an epidural, it was too late.) And, she was the only baby I had completely natural. Why experience it more than once if you don't have to, right? Now, why I picked my BIGGEST baby to go natural on, I will never know. Had I waited until William, I would have only had to give birth naturally to a six-pounder. Not only was she big, but I had fallen down a steep flight of stairs while holding Thomas a month or so earlier ON MY TAILBONE! I may have broken it, but there was really no way of knowing, and they can't do anything about it anyway. It hurt bad. And, it hurt r-e-e-e-a-l bad while I was delivering Marianne. I am also one of the lucky women (1 in 5) who suffer from SPD (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction) during my last two tri-mesters of pregnancy. Basically, I had a lot of pain in the pelvic area whenever I moved those last several months. It got increasingly worse the closer I got to the delivery day. This seemed to cause me more pain during delivery than the contractions did. Has anyone else I know suffered from this?

There. Have I sufficiently protrayed the pain and agony I went through yet? As I was pushing, I wasn't sure I would survive. I think the doctor wondered the same thing. But I did. And, I am glad I mustered up the courage to go natural. (Of course, that's easy to say now!) It reminds me of the quote from Winnie the Pooh, "You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think..." Minus the "smarter" part, because I wouldn't say "smarts" had anything to do with it.

Now, tell me you wouldn't go through the same thing knowing you would get this (dimples included) as a reward:

Here she is just a few months old wearing a dress that my mom made for me when I was just a baby.

And here she is with James on her 10th birthday:

She is so big now! Well, not really. She is a stick! Even her slim pants are too big!

These flower pots were her "birthday cake". They were filled with cake, ice cream, and crushed Oreos. The girls got flowers, and the boys got gummy bugs and worms.

Somehow, we managed to get the candles lit without setting the flowers on fire. That was good.

They were promptly enjoyed and gobbled up by James...I mean...all! (The brown specks on his arm are Oreo crumbs.)

I know everyone says this, and I have heard myself say it time and time again, but I will say it at least a million more times, including right now - They just grow up too darn stinkin' fast!
